Field

What it is

Field is an experimental game. There is no score, no fail state and nothing to beat. A reaction-diffusion simulation runs continuously in a volume, and you reach into it and disturb it.

It runs entirely in the browser. Rest the cursor to touch the field, drag to look around it, and scroll to reach further in.

What is actually running

Two chemicals diffuse through a grid at different rates and react where they meet. Feed and kill rates decide whether the result settles into spots, stripes, spirals or a front that never stops moving. The volume is raymarched each frame, so what you are looking at is the simulation itself rather than a recording of one.

The parameters are exposed rather than hidden. Feed, kill, the two diffusion rates, timestep, solver steps and resolution are all live, which is the whole point: the toy is the tuning.
