Every tension the Mesh thesis resolves — autonomous AI vs. human-in-the-loop, federated sovereignty vs. centralized dependency, augmentation vs. replacement — was dramatized in GitS with a specificity that borders on engineering specification. The franchise's continued relevance is not nostalgic; it is diagnostic. What Shirow, Oshii, and Kamiyama built across manga, film, and series constitutes the most rigorous philosophical stress-test available for any human-augmentation infrastructure protocol.
The ghost is not a soul — it is a cryptographic root of trust

The Mesh is the architectural answer to both. From Lain, it takes withdrawal's insight: sovereignty requires cryptographic boundaries. Self-hosted infrastructure. DID/UCAN proof chains that establish the human as the root of trust. You don't achieve sovereignty by trusting the network; you achieve it by maintaining hard cryptographic boundaries between your domain and everyone else's.
